Why does my domain record a high number of impressions but few uniques or clicks?

For an explanation of the terms "Impressions", "Uniques" and "Clicks" please click here.

Please note, a click through ratio of 10 uniques per 1 click (10%) would not be considered unusually low. Furthermore, the ratio of impressions to uniques is can vary a great deal, and it is normal for the ratio of impressions to uniques to be far more that 10 impressions per 1 unique.

If a domain name records a high number of impressions but low uniques and/or clicks, there could be a number of explanations:

  • The most common cause is spiders/bots visiting the domain name in order to index it in a search engine or collect information. While we record impressions from such visits, they do not count towards uniques or clicks.
  • Another common cause is traffic from expired links, e.g. links to images which no longer exist.

To see the referrers of your traffic you can check the "Host" data for your domains in the Traffic Control, Revenue Reports or Domain Analytics areas of your account.

While high impression rates are generally nothing to be concerned about, if you have checked the referrers of your traffic and can not identify the reason for it, we recommend you contact your account manager or support@fabulous.com
